 About the projects:

This website has been designed to act as a resource for MTW teachers to aid in the teaching of practical skills development through the design and manufacture of woodwork projects.

The website offers a number sample briefs which the MTW pupils can engage in solving.

There are projects to cover the full 3 year duration of MTW up to time pupils will begin designing their the Junior Certificate project.

Projects for each year can be accessed by the links on the navigation bar on the left.

Pupil skills development and engagement in the design process through the projects is structured in a logical progressive sequence. See the aims and objectives of each year for more info.

Each project page has a number of sections:

  • Brief: This outlines the problem to be solved by the pupils and criteria and constraints to work within.

  • Research and investigation: This section offers a sequential slide show presentation which brings the pupils through the main steps in the design process for this brief in arriving at a solution.

  • Sample solution: This section outlines a sample solution to the given brief, the key features of such and a eDrawing file to view the 3D model of the solution. Also an estimation of the time it would take to complete the manufacture of the project is given.

  • Pupil's individual design input: This section offers suggestions as to how the pupils can have an individual input into the project even though the entire class may be manufacture the same solution to the brief.

  • Manufacturing the project: offers the resources necessary to manufacture the chosen solution including tools and processes used, SolidWorks model, working drawings and cutting list.

  • Leave a comment of this project: this feature allows you as a teacher to interact with the content of this website and help it improve. You are encouraged to leave your thoughts in connection with the project, whether you have taught it, how it went, etc so that others can gain from your experience. Also there is a facility for uploading photos, so if you have images of student's versions of the projects on this website please upload them.
