Foreword:

 

The following five projects briefs, and sample solutions are designed to build on the previous projects so that pupils logically and progressively achieve the aims and objectives of the Materials Technology Wood syllabus. Therefore they are designed to be thought in sequence. However, the projects all have their own merits can be approached individually also as part of an alternative scheme of work.

Note: the following aims and objectives are intended to be contributory to those outlined for first year.

 Aims and objectives (adapted from the syllabus):

 

 Aim:

To develop a creative approach to problem solving in the design process through designing, making and evaluating projects.

Objectives:

  • The pupils will be able to work within imposed or recognised constraints of materials, time, resources and skills.
  • The pupils will display an appreciation for the character of wood and other materials through appropriate selection and processing.
  • The pupils will have the ability to plan the production of specified and non-specified solutions.
  • The pupils will have a knowledge of health and safety standards and their importance and application to the use of hand tools and machinery.
