Brief:
Tea is one of the most common beverages drank in Ireland today, and is often drank socially with neighbours and family. Design and make a Tea Box unit, to store tea bags on a kitchen worktop. It should be aesthetically pleasing (look good), but it should also be designed with consideration of its functionality (to serve its purpose). |  |

Project outline: This tea box is a project that would be very suitable for a first year junior cycle group to make. The manufacturing processes involved should not cause any student massive difficulty and in fact this project would be ideal for introducing some processes to students for example dowel joints. Duration: This project should take approximately 8 double lessons depending on the ability level of the group and the resources available.

Pupil's Individual design input:
Within the framework of the sample solution shown above there is scope for individual design input in relation to some aspects of the artefact. The students could design a handle unique to their own project, once the area in contact with the lid is big enough to facilitate a screw joint. However anthropometric data should be considered in relation the human hand and the handle design. A finger hole could be used to facilitate opening the lid.
