Sample solution:
Project outline: This project is based around a simple rectangular piece of wood. The sign has been planed on all four sides to improve its appear and the message of the sign "please recycle" has been relief carved into the piece (along with the recycling logo) then painted. However, simply painting the message onto the sign would achieve a similar effect. Two screw holes are drilled and countersunk on the piece, to allow for fixing the sign to a wall, door, etc. Duration: This project should take approximately 3 double lessons depending on the ability level of the group, situation and the resources available. Inclusion or exclusion of relief carving in the project will also have a bearing on the timing of the project. |   |

Pupil's individual design input:
Within the framework of the sample solution shown above there is scope for individual design input in relation to aesthetics of the artefact. The design of sign can be augmented by simply removing the corners. The main area for pupil design input is the face of the sign and the message which is conveys. Some alternative examples are shown below.
