Foreword:

 

The following eight projects ideas are designed to introduce pupils gradually to the Materials Technology Wood syllabus. They are designed to be thought in sequence, each project aims to logically progress from the previous. However, the projects all have their own merits can be approached individually also as part of an alternative scheme of work.

Aims and objectives (adapted from the syllabus):

 

 Aim:

To stimulate the development of a range of creative and manipulative skills through processing wood.

Objectives:

  • The pupils will acquire knowledge and understanding of the problems associated with the process of designing.
  • The pupils will have gained an appropriate level of competency in the use of a number of common hand tools and machinery.
  • The pupils will derive satisfaction and confidence from making and evaluating projects.
  • The pupils will be able to appropriately finish artefacts in both surface and applied finishes.
